Dr. Rehan Sayeed is an alumnus from the prestigious Madras Medical College where he did his basic medical education graduating in 1994, after which he went on to complete his general surgery training. His continuous quest to upgrade his skills took him to the United Kingdom where he graduated with a Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgery in Edinburgh. He subsequently returned to India to do his Cardiothoracic training at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai under the mentorship of Dr. M R Girinath where he graduated in 2002 as a Diplomate of the National Board of Examinations.

Having laid a solid future foundation in India, in 2002 he went on to do a Fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Boston University Medical Center where he was Chief Resident. In 2004, he joined the prestigious Children’s Hospital of Boston and Harvard University as Senior Resident in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery doing complex congenital heart surgeries. In 2006 he joined The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio, currently considered the top American heart center. In Cleveland he specialized in Heart Failure Surgery and Mechanical Assist Devices/Cardiac Transplantation. He is certified in Cardiac Transplantation and was a part of the team that implanted the early Total Artificial hearts (Cardiowest). While at the Cleveland Clinic he also trained in minimally invasive cardiac surgery and valve repair surgery. To date he has over ten thousand cardiac and minimal access procedures to his credit.

On his return to India, he joined Apollo Hospitals in Chennai as a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and in January 2007, he established the Cardiothoracic Department at Apollo Hospitals in Bangalore. He has been the Department Coordinator since that time. Dr. Sayeed has proudly accomplished the single largest series of minimally invasive off-pump bypass surgeries in the world and has been an innovator in the new frontiers of cardiac research. Most of his surgeries are done through the minimal access approach and he has done multiple CCSVI procedures using the methods he and others have pioneered.
